Betting on the Dog Track

Greyhound racing has led to betting money on the dogs. This is a process that involves betting huge lumps of money on a particular dog before the race starts; a single grey hound can be bet upon by many individuals. Once the race starts, the betting stops and the betters have to keep their fingers crossed for if the grey hound they have bet upon wins. The money they get back is twice or three times the money they invested. If they lose, they get nothing. Betting enables favoritism and for the greyhound that continuously is the clear contender to be bet upon leads to the rise in its popularity and thereby proving itself to the racing club as well.

Grey hound racing is nowadays emerging as a major sport in different parts of the world leading to formulation of laws and measures to keep the sport in check. It is conducted in a different manner in different places. For e.g. in the United States the sport is governed and controlled by the state laws which means they are allowed partially or fully in some states, but banned entirely in other states.
